You can easily reach out to your doula by contacting them through email or phone. For specific contact details and further instructions, please visit the Contact page ‎on our website.


How do I get access to my surveys?

To access your surveys, please check your email inbox or spam folder for any messages from RedCap. They will send you an email with a link to the survey along with any additional instructions you may need to complete it.


What site do I reach out to?

Recruitment is ongoing at three sites: Rutgers, Cook County, and Baton Rouge, so stay in contact with the site you are involved with!

What is the purpose of the Well Mama Study?

The Well Mama Study is focused on engaging doulas in maternal care for BIPOC pregnant people. We hope we can positively contribute to your pregnancy experience while also furthering research in the field.

What are the benefits of having a doula during pregnancy and childbirth?

Doulas provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to birthing people before, during, and after childbirth. They can offer guidance, advocacy, and comfort, leading to improved birth experiences and outcomes.


Where can I find resources about addressing the priority areas to decrease maternal morbidity and mortality?

We provide quick links to valuable resources on our website that address the five priority areas aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality. Please visit the Resources section which is at the bottom of the Contact page for more information and access to these materials.


What information can I expect to find in the Trimester-specific Educational Material on the website?

We offer an educational breakdown of what to expect during each trimester of pregnancy. You will find detailed information about the physical and emotional changes, fetal development, common symptoms, and tips for self-care during each stage of your pregnancy journey.


What happens when I don’t complete one of my surveys?

It is strongly suggested that you complete all surveys throughout the study, but if you miss a survey, it does not disqualify you from the study.


How many surveys will I have to complete?

You will complete up to 6 surveys throughout your time in the study.


Can my doula come to my appointment with me?

Your doula can come to one doctor’s appointment with your OBGYN, you can discuss with your doula if you would like to for them to come with you for more appointments.


How much money will I receive for the surveys?

For completing the surveys, you can receive up to 50 dollars in gift cards for compensation.


When can I expect to receive my gift cards?

You can receive your gift cards in up to 2-3 weeks following completion of the survey.


Are the support groups in person or online?

Support groups will be held by your doulas online, through Zoom.


What happens if I need to cancel my doula appointment?

If you need to cancel your doula appointment, contact your doula directly.


What happens if my doula can not attend my delivery?

If your doula cannot attend your delivery, they will connect with you shortly after your birth to check in on the status of yourself and baby.


What are the virtual support groups?

Virtual support groups will be provided by your doula and they will be focused around 5 topic areas, Mental health, Cardiovascular Health, Gun Safety, Drugs and Alcohol, Intimate Partner Violence, and Social Support.


What happens if I miss a virtual support group session?

You can reach out to your doula!
